Broad-Based Black Economic Empowerment

Broad-Based Black Economic Empowerment (BBBEE or B-BBEE as written by the South African government) is a form of economic empowerment initiated by the South African government in response to criticism against narrow-based empowerment instituted in the country during 2003/2004.

BBEEE FAQ

A BEE-rating certificate is a document that indicates a company's level of BEE compliance. A level one contributor is the highest achievable status and the lowest level of BEE compliance is level eight. The higher the BEE status level, the stronger a company is in relation to its competition.

Black Economic Empowerment (BEE) is a racially selective programme launched by the South African government to redress the inequalities of Apartheid by giving certain previously disadvantaged groups (Blacks, Coloureds, Indians, and Chinese) of South African citizens economic privileges previously not available to them

The preferential procurement element of the B-BBEE scorecard measures the extent to which a company purchases its qualifying goods and supplies from B-BBEE compliant suppliers as evidenced by the B-BBEE scorecard rating of the supplier.

Being BEE exempted means having an automatic B-BBEE Contribution Level of Four and a procurement recognition of 100% Sufficient evidence of qualification as an Exempted Micro-Enterprise is an auditor's certificate or similar certificate issued by an accounting officer or verification agency.
